The lyrics, expressing how sometimes the love we experience is wrong, invoke an emotional response that’s hard to ignore.

To say this song is beautifully tragic would be an understatement. She mentions that the phrase “I love you” is too easy to say, insinuating that she’s tossed the words around too easily in the past, perhaps without considering the weight of their meaning. I’m glad Hailee is telling us it’s alright if we need to take time for ourselves to figure things out. As a society we’re kind of expected to jump into the next relationship and not stay single for too long. This song about staying away from love until you’re okay is so important in this day and age. This song is revenge wrapped up in a catchy beat and relatable lyrics. She later goes on to sing about how she wishes he was never born going on to show just how much she wishes she could replace and take back her love. Hailee is hoping her name hurts him just as much as his name is hurting her. However, there’s a plot twist to the lyrics of the song. This song about wishing you’d never met the man you love and how much their name hurts after a breakup is incredibly beautiful. The song is catchy and has a good message about problematic masculinity. When Hailee sings “I don’t mean society’s version, I just mean be a better person” in Man Up I want to cheer. It has a good beat, amazing lyrics, and is so empowering I can’t help but love it more. The use of baby voices and then Hailee Steinfeld talk-rapping make this song an entire bop. Though, I still stand by the opinion Hailee Steinfeld didn’t put a single bad song on this EP, so definitely still give this a listen to. I love it, but it’s definitely my least favorite on the EP. I honestly feel bad putting it last since it’s by no means a bad song. This song about ending your love after being heartbroken is powerful.
